Another accident has occurred in which foreign tourists were injured by a drunk driver.
According to police on the 23rd, at about 7:10 p.m. near Hongdae Station in Mapo District, Seoul, a car veered onto the sidewalk and struck four pedestrians. Two of the pedestrians are said to be Japanese tourists. One of them was seriously injured.
The driver, in his 50s, was found to be heavily intoxicated at a level warranting license revocation at the time. Police arrested the driver at the scene on suspicion of drunk driving.
In Nov. last year, a Japanese tourist also died in a drunk driving crash. A mother and daughter visiting from Japan were hit while crossing at a crosswalk near Dongdaemun Station in Jongno District, and the mother, a woman in her 50s, ultimately died.
