In Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, a woman in her 30s who abused her 3-year-old daughter and caused her death admitted the crime to police, saying she did not want to raise her daughter.
According to Siheung Police Station in Gyeonggi Province on the 24th, a woman in her 30s, identified as A and arrested on charges of child abuse resulting in death and abandoning a body, said in a recent police interview that it was difficult to raise the child.
A is accused of abusing her biological daughter, then 3 years old, at her home in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, in Feb. 2020, causing her death (child abuse resulting in death). She is also accused of conspiring with B, with whom she was in a romantic relationship, to abandon the girl's body in a wooded hill in Danwon District, Ansan (abandoning a body).
Initially, A denied the abuse charge, saying the daughter was found dead under a blanket.
However, after parts of A's statement were determined to be "false" in a polygraph test conducted on the 19th, the investigation accelerated. During a subsequent face-to-face questioning with her accomplice B, A eventually said, in effect, that she strangled her daughter to death.
When the time came for the deceased daughter to enter elementary school this year, A disguised B's niece as her biological daughter to cover up the crime. On the school's pre-enrollment day in January, she took the niece for proxy attendance, and earlier this month she even visited the school to apply for a field trip.
After the experiential learning period ended, the school, suspicious that the child was not attending, filed a missing person report with police on the 16th. That afternoon, police urgently arrested A and B at a lodging facility in Siheung where they were hiding. Based on the suspects' statements, on the 18th police recovered the girl's remains—left in a skeletal state, wrapped in a blanket and plastic—from a wooded hill in Ansan.
Police requested a detailed analysis of the recovered remains from the National Forensic Service. On the 19th, police obtained arrest warrants for A and B from the court, and the case is under investigation.
