A fire broke out at 1:11 p.m. on the 23rd at turbine No. 19 in the wind farm in Changpo-ri, Yeongdeok-eup, Yeongdeok County, North Gyeongsang.
A fire that started in the middle section of the blade left one of the three wind farm officials who went to conduct an inspection found dead. The other two have not been reached. A search is underway.
Fire authorities are continuing extinguishing operations to prevent the blaze from spreading to a nearby hill. They have deployed 11 firefighting helicopters, as well as equipment and personnel.
Turbine No. 19, where the fire occurred, had halted operations and was undergoing inspection and repairs, according to reports. Police and fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage once the fire is fully out.
