Of the 14 people who died in the fire at the Daejeon Safety Industry plant, 13 have been identified. During additional searches inside the building, additional parts of a body were found.
According to the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency on the 23rd, the identification process has been completed for 13 of the 14 dead. Of these, the remains of 12 will be handed over to the bereaved families today.
For the remaining one body whose identity has not been confirmed, DNA was not detected, and additional detailed testing is underway.
That day, during a detailed on-site search, fire authorities found parts of a body believed to belong to an existing victim.
Police forensic officers are currently recovering the remains. As soon as the recovery is complete, they plan to request an analysis from the National Forensic Service.
A police official said, "We will promptly hand over to the bereaved families the remains of the two victims, including the one whose DNA has not yet been obtained, as well as the additional body parts found today, as soon as DNA analysis is completed."
