Busan City said on the 23rd it will push to strengthen strategic cooperation with Renault Korea.
This strengthening of cooperation is being pursued on the occasion of Renault Korea's new car launch that day. Earlier, Renault Korea submitted a new investment plan, including expanding electric powertrain facilities at the Busan plant, at the "2025 APEC CEO Summit Korea," and this is a follow-up measure.
Renault Korea began launching its flagship new car, "Filante (FILANTE)," in March this year. Before launch, the vehicle logged more than 7,000 pre-contracts.
The city assessed that with this additional facility investment, Renault Korea's Busan plant has been able to establish a flexible production system capable of producing internal combustion, hybrid, and electric vehicles. Accordingly, it expected this would also help strengthen Renault Korea's global competitiveness.
The city plans to continue advancing the future mobility industry ecosystem based on cooperation with Renault Korea. It is pushing related projects in stages, including export-led technology support for innovative growth in future vehicles, research and development for win-win cooperation on core parts, building a digital twin system based on Extended Reality (XR), and creating a shared center for giant casting.
In addition, the city decided to purchase the Filante as an official vehicle. By purchasing eco-friendly cars produced in the region, it aims to spur an increase in volume.
Park Heong-joon, the Busan mayor, said, "Renault Korea is a key anchor company playing a pivotal role in Busan's manufacturing," adding, "Through this investment agreement and the new car launch, an important turning point has been created for Busan's transition to the future mobility industry."
