The government said it will set up a joint memorial altar at Daejeon City Hall in connection with the Daejeon Daedeok District factory fire disaster and operate it starting on the 22nd.
At the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters meeting on the Daejeon Daedeok District factory fire, held at the Sejong Government Complex and chaired by Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Ho-jung on this day, the government said it would more closely look after support for bereaved families and victims and stated accordingly.
Designated public officials will also be assigned to provide psychological, funeral, and livelihood support for bereaved families.
Police will provide additional DNA analyzers for the swift identification of the deceased workers and request an urgent examination from the National Forensic Service to shorten the time required for identification as much as possible.
The plan is to hold regular briefings on the progress of accident response and guarantee the participation of bereaved families in the investigation into the cause of the accident so they are not sidelined in the response process.
At 3 p.m. on this day, the government will hold a "joint briefing by related agencies" for bereaved families and victims. Bereaved families also plan to take part in the joint on-site examination by related agencies.
As part of efforts to prevent a recurrence, inspections of similar business sites will also begin.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will launch a full review of building safety management, including sandwich panel structures and illegal extensions and renovations, which have been pointed to as exacerbating the fire damage.
The National Fire Agency and the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) plan to conduct emergency safety inspections of similar business sites.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS), the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), the Ministry of Employment and Labor, and the National Fire Agency will establish an interagency cooperation system to craft practical measures.
Minister Yoon Ho-jung said, "The president also personally visited the site to closely review overall support matters and said there should be no lapse in support," and added, "All ministries should pool their efforts so that what is discussed is implemented on the ground immediately."
