A fire broke out at about 11:25 a.m. on the 22nd in a low mountain in Yuseong-ri, Jeungsan-myeon, Gimcheon, North Gyeongsang Province, but it was extinguished in 50 minutes.
According to the North Gyeongsang Fire Service Headquarters and others, nine firefighting helicopters, 136 personnel, and 23 pieces of equipment including fire engines were deployed to the scene. The main fire suppression was completed at around 12:15 p.m.
Within a 1-kilometer radius of the wildfire were an elementary school, a post office, and livestock sheds. Immediately after the fire broke out, Gimcheon City closed mountain access and sent alert text messages asking nearby residents and hikers to watch for safety accidents.
Authorities said they plan to investigate the exact cause of the wildfire once mop-up operations are complete.
