Group BTS's new album "Arirang (ARIRANG)," released after 3 years and 9 months, sold nearly 4 million copies in just one day.
Label Big Hit Music said on the 21st that BTS's fifth studio album "Arirang" sold 3.98 million copies. It was within a day of its release at 1 p.m. the previous day.
BTS's highest first-week sales had been 3.37 million copies, set by the fourth studio album "Map of the Soul: 7" (MAP OF THE SOUL : 7) released in Feb. 2020. Arirang surpassed that record in a single day.
The group is red-hot worldwide. Arirang topped the iTunes "Top Albums" chart in 88 countries and regions, including Italy, Mexico and Sweden.
The title track "Swim (SWIM)" reached "Top Songs" in 90 countries and regions, including the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany and France, as of 9 a.m. that day. Swim also ranked No. 1 on real-time charts of domestic music platforms such as Melon and Bugs.
BTS will present a "BTS Comeback Live: Arirang (ARIRANG)" performance around Gwanghwamun Square at 8 p.m. that day.
