Of the 14 people who had been out of contact at the Anjeon Industry fire scene in Daedeok-gu, Daejeon, one was found dead.
According to the Daedeok Fire Station in Daejeon on the 21st, at about 11:03 p.m. the previous day, one unidentified Namsung was found by a rescue team at the entrance to a second-floor break room.
This Namsung was pronounced dead at the scene and then taken to a nearby hospital. The number of remaining missing people is 13. In addition, the total number of people with moderate to severe injuries is 55.
Fire authorities have been conducting a search by deploying rescuers inside the building from 10:25 p.m., after completing a building safety inspection. Fire authorities had earlier used mobile phone location tracking to estimate that the missing people were in a factory break room.
The fire was completely extinguished at 11:48 p.m. It was 10 hours and 30 minutes after the fire broke out at about 1:17 p.m. on the 20th.
Prime Minister Kim Min-seok visited the fire site that afternoon and asked for all-out efforts to search for the employees who had been out of contact. Kim said, "The families are likely under severe emotional strain as well," and added, "The Ministry of the Interior and Safety should do everything possible to support the families, and please pay attention to the safety of those going in for the rescue."
Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Ho-jung earlier presided over the first meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) at the fire site that day, and Minister of Health and Welfare Jung Eun-kyeong also visited the site to discuss hospital transfers.
