The group BTS is unveiling its comeback stage on the 21st at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul, and director Hamish Hamilton, who oversaw the production, said the heart of the show is the fans.
In an interview with Bloomberg that day, director Hamilton said of the show, "There will be moments where spectacular staging meets genuine emotion."
He explained, "Fans known as "ARMY" (the BTS fandom name) are among the main protagonists of the live streaming," adding, "When hundreds of thousands on site are fully immersed in the music, our job is to capture every bit of that joyful moment."
He added, "The BTS members are deeply connected to their roots, and this venue sits at the center of that," saying, "This place is an arch and a frame, the beginning of a story and the close of a chapter, and at the same time the start of a new one."
Bloomberg said Hamilton, who has a track record directing the Super Bowl halftime show, the largest U.S. sports-linked music event, has built BTS's first comeback stage in about four years with a symbolic arch and digital wall, among other elements.
As part of efforts to expand viewer engagement beyond scripted programs into live events, Netflix will broadcast the show live to more than 190 countries worldwide.
This is the first time a major event held in Korea will be broadcast globally live on Netflix.
