Political YouTuber Seong Je-jun, 35, who has 1.07 million subscribers, was caught driving under the influence.
According to the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul on the 20th, Seong Je-jun was booked the previous day on suspicion of drunk driving.
Seong is suspected of drinking at a luxury store in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul, at around 9 p.m. on the 16th and then driving his Porsche. His blood alcohol concentration at the time was reportedly at a license suspension level.
After the drunk driving controversy arose, Seong posted an explanation video on his YouTube channel on the 19th. He said, "I called a designated driver and the driver was on the way," and added, "The store had closed, and I was asked to move the car that was parked on the sidewalk, so I moved it onto the roadway."
He said, "I had only one glass of wine. I moved for about five seconds," and added, "They were conducting a (DUI) checkpoint right in front of the store, so I saw it with my own eyes, but I was not intoxicated, and I thought there would be no problem since I was moving onto the road in front of the store."
He added, "You should not drive even for five seconds, but at the request of the valet staff, I thought one glass of wine wouldn't be a problem, and moving the car was my fault," and "I will be careful, again and again, going forward."
Seong is a YouTuber who runs a right-leaning political channel. In Sep. 2024, he posted a video titled "Shocking drunk driving, Lee Jae-myung is finished" on his channel, saying, "When someone says drunk driving, what immediately comes to mind is Lee Jae-myung. It's a proper noun. When people say Representative Lee Jae-myung, drunk driving comes to mind."
