The joint prosecution-police investigation unit probing the alleged collusion between the Unification Church and government officials summoned Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Chun Jae-soo on the 19th as a suspect on charges of violating the Political Funds Act.
Meeting reporters in front of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, where the joint unit's office is located, that morning, Chun said, "There is truly so much work to do, and precious time is slipping away," and added, "I hope a conclusion comes soon. I will faithfully cooperate with today's questioning."
Reporters asked questions such as "Did you receive cash and a watch from the Unification Church," "Were there requests related to pending issues such as an undersea tunnel," and "Did you attend a Unification Church event in Busan," but Chun did not answer.
Chun is suspected of receiving 20 million won in cash and a luxury watch worth 10 million won from the Unification Church side in 2018.
The joint unit executed search and seizure warrants on the 10th for Chun's National Assembly office and for staff members affiliated with the office. The day before, it also summoned Chun's spouse as a reference for questioning.
