Staff at Jegidong and Sinseol-dong stations on Seoul Subway Line 1 returned a bag containing about 50 million won in jeonse funds to its owner in 20 minutes.
According to Seoul Metro on the 18th, at about 12:17 p.m. the previous day, a Jegidong Station employee received a request from Sinseol-dong Station to search for a lost item. The request came right after a report that a male passenger in his 70s had left a bag on a bench on the Jegidong Station platform before boarding the subway.
Fortunately, the navy-blue handbag containing a bankbook and cash totaling about 50 million won was still in place. At about 12:35 p.m., the man who had lost the bag came to the Jegidong Station customer safety office, and it was returned after verifying his identity.
The man said, "I almost lost an important asset containing jeonse funds," and expressed gratitude to the station staff who promptly found it.
Ma Hae-geun, head of the sales division at Seoul Metro, said, "Swift on-site response between Jegidong and Sinseol-dong stations allowed us to safely protect a citizen's valuable property," adding, "If you lose an item on the subway, it is important to report it as soon as you notice it, so please check the place and time of the loss and promptly report it to station staff or the customer center."
