A woman in her 30s who abused her 3-year-old daughter to death and a man in his 30s who helped dump the body were caught by police.
Siheung Police Station in Gyeonggi Province said on the 18th that it had arrested a woman, A, on suspicion of child abuse resulting in death and a man, B, on suspicion of abandoning a body, and was questioning them.
A is suspected of abusing her then 3-year-old biological daughter, C, at an apartment in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung, in Feb. 2020, leading to her death.
During questioning, A is said to have told police to the effect that "I was living alone with C after separating from C's biological father, and one day C was found dead with a blanket over her."
B is suspected of dumping C's body in a wooded hill in Danwon-gu, Ansan, several days after her death. B, who was in a relationship with A at the time, told police, "I acted alone."
The case came to light recently when education authorities reported to police that "it is time for C to start school, but she is not attending." Police who opened an investigation arrested A and others on the 16th at a lodging facility in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung.
Police applied for arrest warrants for them the day before.
A police official said, "We are continuing to search the wooded hill presumed to be where the body was dumped," adding, "We plan to verify details of the abuse."
