A Korean man in his 20s who threatened to bomb an airport in the United States was caught by police.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Cyber Investigation Unit said on the 17th it arrested and referred without detention to prosecutors a man in his 20s, identified as A, on charges of making public threats. A is accused of posting a bomb threat on the message board of Detroit Metropolitan Airport's website on Mar. 20 last year.
Police said they received a request for investigative cooperation from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in January and conducted a joint international investigation.
A police official said, "We will continue to track down and arrest authors to the end, regardless of whether they are in Korea or abroad," and added, "Even if they are mere pranks, we plan to respond strictly to threat-type posts related to large-scale performances and events with strong measures, including arrest and detention."
