At about 4:03 p.m. on the 16th, a report came in that an elementary school student, referred to as A, was injured below the neck by an object suspected to be a warhead at a playground in Buk-gu, Daegu.
A was taken to a hospital immediately after the accident, had the object embedded in the body removed, and then was discharged. A's life is not believed to be in danger.
The military authorities investigating the circumstances said there is a military shooting range 1.5 kilometers in a straight line from the playground where the accident occurred, and that live-fire training took place that day.
A military official said, "We are determining the exact circumstances, including whether military shooting was conducted at the time of the accident."
