A man in his 50s suspected of killing an airline captain in Busan was arrested in Ulsan about 14 hours after the crime.
The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency said it arrested suspect A in this case in Ulsan at about 8:03 p.m. on the 17th. A is accused of fatally stabbing former colleague B, an airline captain, with a weapon at about 5:30 a.m. the same day at an apartment in Busanjin District, Busan.
A is also suspected of ambushing former coworker C from behind at about 4:30 a.m. on the 16th in front of an elevator at a residence in Ilsanseo District, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, and choking C using a tool.
According to police, after killing B on the morning of the 17th, A went to the home of D, another airline industry employee, in Seongsan District, Changwon, South Gyeongsang, but could not enter the building where D lives because police had put in place a personal protection measure.
A then moved to Ulsan and hid in a motel before being caught by police. It was about 14 hours after the killing.
According to the aviation industry, A is said to have been in conflict with colleagues over health and retirement issues. The Busanjin Police Station plans to transfer A to Busan and investigate the detailed circumstances of the case, including the motive.
A police official said, "We will keep all possibilities related to the motive in mind as we investigate."
