After the three special counsels (special counsel investigating the insurrection case, Kim Keon-hee special counsel, and fallen marine special counsel), the second comprehensive special counsel team led by Kwon Chang-young, which is investigating the remaining suspicions, carried out searches and seizures of government agencies in connection with the "presidential residence transfer allegations."
The special counsel said in a media notice on the 17th that it was executing search and seizure warrants from the morning against the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Presidential Security Service.
A day earlier, it executed search and seizure warrants at the home and National Assembly office of People Power Party lawmaker Yoon Han-hong. The warrants were said to cite charges including abuse of power and obstruction of another's rights.
The special counsel said the searches of Yoon's home and National Assembly office were completed the day before, and that because there were multiple locations to search, it split the execution of the warrants between the 16th and the 17th.
The presidential residence transfer allegations under review by the second special counsel involve claims that 21gram, an interior design firm known to have ties to first lady Kim Keon-hee, received preferential treatment in the process of winning contracts for the transfer and expansion work at the Blue House and the presidential residence after former President Yoon Suk-yeol took office.
At the time, the person who served as Head of Team of the transfer task force (TF) was Yoon. The special counsel suspects that Kim, through Yoon, exercised influence to have 21gram take on the presidential residence construction.
