A sitting Seoul city council member from the People Power Party and a former district office official were handed over to prosecutors on suspicion of taking bribes in exchange for promising favors to a market maintenance project operator.
According to police on the 16th, the Jungbu Police Station in Seoul recently sent Seoul City Council member A and former district office official B to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office without detention on bribery charges.
In 2023, A and B are suspected of receiving bribes of 10 million won and 4 million won, respectively, from two operators promoting a market maintenance project in Hwanghak-dong, Jung District, Seoul, in return for project approval.
From Sep. 2023 to Nov. 2024, A served as a review committee member for Seoul's market maintenance projects. At the time, A had the authority to vote on matters related to market maintenance projects.
However, the project was rejected in Sep. 2024 on the grounds that it did not meet the resident consent requirements.
Earlier, in Aug. last year, police searched the homes of A and B.
