A person in their 60s suspected of hitting and killing a pedestrian in their 80s with a car and fleeing in Wanju County, North Jeolla Province, has been arrested by police.
According to police on the 14th, A, in their 60s, who is suspected of hitting pedestrian B, in their 80s, with a car, causing death, and fleeing (fatal hit-and-run under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes), was urgently arrested.
A is suspected of ramming B, who was crossing the road, with a car on a road in Bongdong-eup, Wanju County, North Jeolla Province, at about 7:30 p.m. on the 12th and then fleeing.
B was taken to a hospital in cardiac arrest but was ultimately pronounced dead.
Police identified A as a suspect through analysis of closed-circuit (CC) TV near the scene and vehicle inquiries.
A was unlicensed at the time of the crash and reportedly denied the allegations.
Police plan to seek an arrest warrant for A as soon as the investigation is complete.
