The father of a daughter about 60 days old gave new life to five people through brain-death organ donation and passed away.
According to the Korea Organ Donation Agency (KODA) on Feb. 13, on Jan. 30 at Dong-A University Hospital, Park Seong-bae, 41, donated his heart, lungs, liver, and both kidneys while in a brain-dead state. Park was transported to a hospital on Jan. 19 after suddenly complaining of a headache while sleeping. Despite the medical staff's aggressive treatment, Park did not regain consciousness and became brain-dead.
After hearing from the medical staff that there was no chance Park would wake up, the family agreed to the donation, uniting around the idea of doing a good deed to save other lives at the end of Park's life.
The family remembered Park, the elder of one son and one daughter, as someone with a considerate personality who took good care of those around him. He was also a loving father who, for his young daughter and wife, would look after the child when he came home from work and hold her until she fell asleep.
Park's wife, Im Hyeon-jeong, said, "Don't worry about us. I will raise our daughter well, giving her love for both you and me," adding, "When we meet again later, just tell me I did well. I miss you so much and I love you."
