Hongik University removed musical actor Nam Kyung-ju from his post after he was forwarded without detention on suspicion of raping a woman. Nam had been serving as an associate professor in the Department of Performing Arts (performance arts and musical major) at Hongik University.
According to the education community on the 12th, Hongik University convened a disciplinary committee and removed Nam from his post just before the start of classes. Nam's classes are reportedly being conducted by another professor.
Earlier, the Bangbae Police Station in Seoul forwarded Nam without detention to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office last month on charges of sexual intercourse by abuse of authority.
Nam is suspected of raping a woman, identified as A, in Seoul last year. A is said to have escaped the scene and called 112 at the time.
Nam denied the crime during the police investigation, but police secured physical evidence sufficient to prove the allegation and sent the case to prosecutors.
