A sinkhole (ground subsidence) appeared in an apartment complex in Jungnang District, Seoul, and the cause is under investigation by the relevant agencies.
According to the Jungnang District Office on the 10th, the sinkhole measures 3 meters wide and 1.5 meters deep. There were no casualties or property damage.
The apartment management office said it restricted access to prevent an accident in advance because ground subsidence had been visible since the day before.
An apartment resident who had been parked near the scene said the size was so large it was alarming and noted that because the complex is small, there is fear that if the ground has problems, damage could spread to the entire apartment.
The Jungnang District Office found no issues with other external roads or the sewer system. A Jungnang District Office official said the exact cause of the sinkhole is under investigation.
A sinkhole occurred in April last year less than 1 kilometer from the site of this incident.
