Seoul Metropolitan Council member Yun Young-hee (People Power Party) on the 6th, regarding former Seongdong District Chief Chong Won-o's controversy over the response to a heavy snowfall, said, "You promoted it as efficient administration, but you are deceiving citizens with slick lies that go beyond packaging and inflating results."
On the same day, Council member Yun posted on social media (SNS) an article titled "Is former District Chief Chong Won-o's election strategy 'lies'?" and said this.
That day, one outlet reported that former District Chief Chong appeared on a program hosted by Kim Ou-joon during the heavy snowfall in December last year and said Seongdong District took preemptive action based on its own weather data. It said they predicted that the snow, which began falling toward Ganghwa Island, would expand to Seoul an hour and a half later and carried out snow removal in advance. The claim was that Seongdong District began snow removal earlier than the Seoul Metropolitan Government or other local governments thanks to its own weather data.
Regarding this, Council member Yun said, "Both were absurd lies," adding, "The snowfall prediction system Chong mentioned is the Seoul Metropolitan Government system that the city has operated with all of Seoul's autonomous districts since 2008."
She continued, "Seongdong District's snowplows began moving at 4:38 p.m., and pre-salting began at 5:24 p.m.," adding, "It was not 2 p.m."
Council member Yun also said, "It is truly regrettable in itself to tell Seoul citizens a lie that will be exposed right away," adding, "If you thought you could deceive citizens with a few words, you were gravely mistaken."
She then argued that the former district chief should apologize three times.
Council member Yun said, "You must apologize for deceiving citizens with lies," adding, "You must apologize for lying that you conducted non-existent in-house research and for lying that you started snow removal at 2 p.m."
She continued, "You must apologize for the opportunism of using even a natural disaster like a heavy snowfall for showmanship and image packaging. You must apologize for the old-style politics of riding on citizens' inconvenience and damage to launch your own campaign," adding, "You must apologize to other autonomous districts that undertook snow removal under the same system and to the Seoul Metropolitan Government that commanded and controlled the overall response, and for claiming only Seongdong District did well while denigrating the efforts of other districts and the city."
Council member Yun said, "No citizen would want to entrust the Seoul Metropolitan Government to a liar," adding, "From now on, you must also abandon an election strategy of lies."
