At the Community Chest of Korea "Fruit of Love," an incident occurred in which the real names and resident registration numbers of high-value donors who gave 20 million won or more were leaked.
According to the Fruit of Love on the 5th, a "2024 settlement of account data" that did not mask the real names and resident registration numbers of roughly 600 donors was recently posted on its website. The Fruit of Love releases settlement of account data each year containing donation details, but a file that had not undergone de-identification of personal information was reportedly uploaded by mistake. Because it was a list of high-value donors, many politicians, businesspeople, and entertainers were said to be included.
The Fruit of Love recognized the leak the previous evening and began responding. A Fruit of Love official said, "We have formed a rapid response team and are responding," and added, "Under the Personal Information Protection Act, we will notify each victim individually of the leak tomorrow and report it to the responsible agency."
The Enforcement Decree of the Personal Information Protection Act stipulates that when a personal information controller becomes aware of a personal information leak, it must report it to the relevant authority within 72 hours. The Fruit of Love said it is currently preparing the report and that it will be able to file within the prescribed time.
