On the 5th, a fire broke out at a store in the jewelry district in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and fire authorities began extinguishing it.
According to fire authorities, a report came in at about 1:21 p.m. that a fire had started on the second floor of a two-story commercial building in Bongik-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Fire authorities arrived at the scene at about 1:23 p.m., two minutes after the report was received, and began firefighting operations, deploying 119 personnel and 32 pieces of equipment.
It was confirmed that six stores are located on the building's second floor. Thirty-seven people evacuated due to the fire, and there have been no reported casualties so far.
At about 1:40 p.m., Jongno-gu sent a safety alert saying, "Firefighting is underway, so please detour nearby vehicles, and residents are asked to exercise caution."
Police and fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage as soon as the blaze is fully extinguished.
