Law firm YulChon has launched a dedicated organization for the media and entertainment industry, the "Media & Entertainment Team."
YulChon said on the 4th that it launched the Media Entertainment Team to respond to growing demand for contracts, regulation, and dispute matters across the media and entertainment industry.
Recently, as the entertainment industry's market size and influence have grown, corporate legal issues have expanded beyond traditional management and exclusive contract disputes to include intellectual property rights, the Commercial Act, the Financial Investment Services and Capital Markets Act, fair trade, and control disputes. Labor issues stemming from workforce growth, artist risk management, prevention of trade secret and know-how leakage, and demand for responses to the Serious Accidents Punishment Act on content production sites are also increasing. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology and the expansion of content distribution through global platforms are also cited as new legal issues.
YulChon explained that the new team will cover the entire process of media and entertainment and content production and distribution, handling advice on contracts, disputes, regulatory responses, and risk management. Legal issues arising from AI-based content production and advice on platform and distribution structures were also presented as key work areas. Through collaboration with the taxes group, it will also provide advice on legal and tax issues related to one-person corporations for entertainers and one-person agencies.
The Media Entertainment Team is led by attorney Kim Mun-hee (Judicial Research and Training Institute class 34). Kim has served as a member of the Korea Communications Commission's Broadcast Dispute Mediation Committee and the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) Content Dispute Mediation Committee. Kim has advised on content production for Netflix's "The Glory" and "All Will Come True," and Disney+ "Light Shop" and "Tyrant," and has provided advice and litigation services related to entertainment companies.
The team includes attorney Choi Jeong-hwan (class 18), attorney Song Ho-seong (class 40), attorney Lee Yong-min (class 37), attorney Kwon Seong-guk (class 40), attorney Joo Byeong-chang (class 42), and foreign attorney Lee Gyu-young. Labor specialists attorney Lee Jeong-woo (class 37) and attorney Gu Ja-hyeong (3rd bar exam), and taxes specialist attorney Lee Se-bin (3rd bar exam) will also join.
YulChon said it plans to strengthen not only traditional media and entertainment advisory services but also its capabilities in AI, new technology intellectual property (IP), and platform-related advisory work.
