A report came in that paper (a personal effect) believed to be Rodong Sinmun, the organ of the Central Committee of the (North) Korean Workers' Party, was found on a derelict wooden boat discovered off Jeju's coast. The matter is under investigation by the authorities.
At about 9:40 a.m. on the 4th, a resident reported to the Korea Coast Guard that a derelict wooden boat was found on the coast of Udo-myeon, Jeju City. The boat found this time was about 4 meters long and about 1 meter wide, and no other personal effects were found.
However, paper believed to be Rodong Sinmun, the organ of the Central Committee of the (North) Korean Workers' Party, came out through a crumpled gap inside the boat. The Jeju Police Agency, the National Intelligence Service (NIS), the Korea Coast Guard, and others are investigating for anti-communist security violations.
From last year to the present, this is the fourth time an unidentified derelict wooden boat has been found in Jeju. On Dec. 30, 2025, one boat was found on the coast of Shindo-ri, Daejeong-eup, Seogwipo City; on Jan. 12, one in Woljeong-ri, Gujwa-eup, Jeju City; and on Jan. 29, one in Hagwi 2-ri, Aewol-eup, in succession.
At the time, authorities assessed that the likelihood of any crime, including anti-communist security violations, was low.
