A teenager accused of making bomb threats against major companies starting with Kakao and including NAVER, KT, and Samsung Electronics is said to have admitted to all the crimes after being detained.
According to police and others on the 4th, the Bundang Police Station in Gyeonggi plans to refer high school student A, who was detained on charges of public intimidation, to the prosecution on the 5th. A is accused of posting online community messages heralding attacks on major companies' headquarters and Seoul Station from Dec. 15 last year to Jan. 5 this year.
A denied the charges during police questioning, but is said to have changed stance and admitted to the crimes after a court issued a detention warrant on the 26th of last month.
In particular, A was found to have posted three additional threatening messages against Kakao, Naver, and others on the 16th of last month. It was found to have been done for the purpose of creating an alibi during the police's currently investigating to claim the crimes were unrelated to A.
A is one of the so-called "named users (famous figures)" active on the voice messenger platform "Discord." A is said to have carried out the crimes with other suspects who were apprehended on charges including public intimidation, in order to give a hard time to people in Discord with whom they had fallen out.
Police plan to calculate the extent of damages caused by the threatening posts and hold the suspects liable for compensation.
