Daegu Rehabilitation Court officially opened on the 3rd.
According to legal sources, Daegu Rehabilitation Court will hold an opening ceremony at 4 p.m. on the same day at the new annex of Daegu District Court and begin full operations.
Daegu Rehabilitation Court is launching as an independent court. Former Ulsan District Court senior judge Sim Hyeon-uk (Judicial Research and Training Institute class 29) has been appointed as the inaugural court president. There are nine judges in total, including President Sim.
After being appointed a judge at Busan District Court in 2003, Senior Judge Sim served as a judge at the Dongbu Branch of Busan District Court, a judge at the Tongyeong Branch of Changwon District Court, a judge at Busan High Court, a research judge at the Supreme Court, a senior judge at Busan District Court, head of the Miryang Branch of Changwon District Court, head of the Seobu Branch of Busan District Court, and chief senior judge at Ulsan District Court.
Daegu Rehabilitation Court has taken up temporary quarters on the fourth floor of the Daegu District Court building. The former Daegu Regional Food and Drug Administration building in Dalseo District is being remodeled as the new courthouse, and the court is scheduled to relocate there in Sep. 2027.
The establishment of Daegu Rehabilitation Court comes as rehabilitation and bankruptcy cases have been rising rapidly in the Daegu area. Last year, Daegu District Court received 12,304 individual rehabilitations and 4,167 individual bankruptcies, up 10% and 1.4% from the previous year. During the same period, corporate rehabilitations also increased 19.3% to 105 cases.
