African swine fever (ASF) broke out at a pig farm in Gaya-myeon, Hapcheon County, South Gyeongsang, prompting the county to begin culling and measures to block the spread.

According to Hapcheon County on the 27th, the county convened a meeting of the disaster and safety countermeasures headquarters immediately after confirming the outbreak at the farm, checked response statuses by department, and completely restricted access to the site.

In addition, under emergency action guidelines, authorities are carrying out quarantine measures including the culling of 5,213 pigs being raised at the farm, disinfection, and an epidemiological investigation.

In particular, a 24-hour emergency system is being maintained to prevent further spread.

The county asked local pig farmers to comply with quarantine rules, including restricting entry by outsiders, strengthening disinfection inside and outside farms, and minimizing the entry of livestock vehicles.

The county said the number of pigs to be culled may change depending on future quarantine progress.

County Chief Kim Yoon-chul said, "We must mobilize all administrative resources to thoroughly block and control the disease and complete the culling swiftly," adding, "Please strengthen safety management for deployed personnel and strictly comply with on-site quarantine rules."
