Remains believed to be those of a victim were found while re-examining debris at the scene of the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster at Muan International Airport on Dec. 29, 2024.
According to the Bereaved Families Council for the 12/29 Muan Airport Jeju Air passenger plane disaster on the 26th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the South Jeolla Provincial Police Agency's forensics team found one set of remains believed to belong to a victim while organizing the wreckage of the aircraft that day. DNA from the families will be cross-checked to confirm the identity of the remains.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board are re-examining the wreckage of the crashed passenger plane stored behind the airport fire department at Muan International Airport. Since the re-examination began on the 12th, more than 10 additional personal effects, including the victims' clothing, have been found.
The families criticized the situation, in which even remains were found, as evidence that the initial recovery process was inadequate.
The Bereaved Families Council said, "We are shattered once again in front of the belatedly found remains and personal effects," and added, "The government's irresponsible bare face, focused only on rapid recovery and closing the situation, has been laid bare."
It continued, "Even now, there must be an investigation that leaves not a single doubt," and said, "We ask the government to do its utmost so that Muan Airport can be reborn as the safest airport in the world."
