A teenager accused of threatening to blow up the headquarters of major companies, starting with Kakao and including NAVER, KT, and Samsung Electronics, has been arrested.
On the 26th, Kim Joo-gwan, Director General judge in charge of warrants at the Seongnam branch of the Suwon District Court, issued an arrest warrant after holding a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (substantial warrant review) for high school student A, who is suspected of public intimidation. Kim said, "There is a concern about destroying evidence, and as the suspect is a minor, there are unavoidable reasons to detain the suspect."
A is suspected of posting terror warnings online a total of 14 times, from Dec. 15 last year to Jan. 5 this year, targeting the headquarters of major companies and Seoul Station.
A was found to have used an overseas IP through a virtual private network (VPN) bypass and wrote posts under someone else's name. The suspect also demanded that a large sum of money be transferred to a specific account.
A is one of the "named users (famous figures)" active on the voice messenger platform "Discord." It was reported that, along with others arrested on suspicion of public intimidation, the suspect carried out the crimes to get back at people who had fallen out with them within Discord.
A is also accused of posting a death threat against President Lee Jae-myung together with another teenager, B, whom the suspect met through Discord. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency sent A and B to the prosecution on the 24th on charges of intimidation and obstruction of official duties by deception.
