A pretrial detention warrant hearing for independent lawmaker Kang Sun-woo and former Seoul Metropolitan Council member Kim Kyung, who are suspected of giving and receiving 1 billion won worth of nomination donations, will be held on Apr. 3.
The Seoul Central District Court said in a press notice on the 25th that it will hold Kang's warrant hearing at 2:30 p.m. on Mar. 3 and hold Kim's warrant hearing at 10 a.m. the same day.
The warrant hearings for both will be handled by warrant-assignated Director General Judge Lee Jong-rok.
The Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency applied to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office for arrest warrants for the lawmaker Kang and the former council member Kim on the 5th on charges of violating the Political Funds Act, bribery and breach of trust solicitation, and violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act. Prosecutors sought the arrest warrants on the 9th.
The motion to arrest lawmaker Kang, who as a sitting lawmaker has immunity from arrest, passed the National Assembly's plenary session on the 24th. Of the total 263 votes cast, 164 were in favor, 87 against, three abstentions, and nine invalid. Kim, a former council member, does not have immunity from arrest.
