An assessment by a criminal psychology expert has come out on a woman in her 20s who was arrested on charges of killing men in their 20s by making them drink drug-laced beverages at motels around Gangbuk District in Seoul.
Oh Yunsung, a professor in the Department of Police Administration at Soonchunhyang University, said on the 24th on CBS Radio's "Park Sung-tae's News Show" that "this woman appears to have committed the crimes with a sense of being chased by something."
Oh noted that Feb. 9, when the second death occurred, had initially been the suspect's scheduled date to appear before police. Oh said, "Typically, when a person is asked to appear by an investigative agency, they either flee or stop committing further crimes," adding, "By contrast, this woman may have decided to commit one more crime, even if it was only one additional victim."
Oh said, "In the first crime, she experimented on her boyfriend," adding, "After testing on a man she knew, it appears she proceeded in earnest with her crimes against men she met offline for the second and third victims."
He went on, "I understand there were many potential victims and people waiting," adding, "Given the various drugs found during the police search and seizure, I think she may also have been preparing for the next crime."
Earlier, on the 19th, the Gangbuk Police Station in Seoul sent a woman in her 20s surnamed Kim to prosecutors under arrest on charges including murder, aggravated assault, and violations of the Narcotics Control Act.
Kim is accused of causing the deaths of two men in their 20s by having them drink beverages mixed with drugs at motels around Gangbuk District in Seoul from Jan. 28 to Feb. 9.
She is also suspected of handing a beverage mixed with drugs to a man identified as A, whom she was dating at the time, in a cafe parking lot in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, at about 11:23 p.m. on Dec. 14 last year, causing injury.
It was found that after receiving a police summons over A's case and while adjusting the timing, Kim committed additional crimes and killed one man.
Police also conducted a psychopathy assessment on Kim, and the results could come as early as this week. They have launched a full review of those who contacted Kim and are checking for any additional crimes.
