A man in his 50s who swung a metal pipe while drunk and threatened his 6-year-old grandson was taken into custody by police.
Wonmi Police Station in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, said on the 25th that it arrested and is questioning a man in his 50s, identified as A, on suspicion of child abuse under the Child Welfare Act.
A is accused of abusing his grandson, identified as B, 6, by threatening the child while swinging a metal pipe at his home in Wonmi District, Bucheon, at about 12:46 a.m. that day.
Responding to a report, police who arrived at the scene arrested A in the act and assigned the case to the Women and Juvenile Crime Investigation Unit of the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency.
A police official said, "We have not been able to question A yet, so the motive has not been confirmed," adding, "Because the case involves a child age 10 or younger, the Gyeonggi Nambu agency will investigate directly."
