The National Fire Agency said on the 23rd that, as the spread of a wildfire continued in Changwon-ri, Macheon-myeon, Hamyang-gun, South Gyeongsang, it invoked the national firefighting mobilization order starting at 11:14 p.m. on the 22nd.
Under this mobilization order, six pump trucks and two water tankers from North Jeolla, and 11 pump trucks and two water tankers from South Jeolla were each deployed. The national firefighting mobilization order is issued by the commissioner of the National Fire Agency when it is difficult to respond to disasters such as fires with the firefighting capacity of a single province or city alone, or when it is deemed necessary at the national level to mobilize firefighting resources to a disaster scene.
The wildfire broke out at about 9:14 p.m. on the 21st. The Central Disaster Management Headquarters of the Korea Forest Service issued a level-2 wildfire alert as of 10:30 p.m. the previous day. Level 2 is a response stage issued when the affected area is expected to expand to 100 ha or more.
As of 10:30 p.m. the previous day, the wildfire impact area was tallied at 121 ha. Of the total 5.1 km fire line, 2 km had been extinguished, leaving the containment rate at about 40%.
