Fire authorities have launched an all-out effort to block a wildfire in Hamyang County, South Gyeongsang, from spreading to homes.
The National Fire Agency said on the 23rd that the fire line spread quickly near Gyeonbul Village in Munjeong-ri, Hyucheon-myeon, Hamyang County, but they succeeded in stopping it by building a defensive line. So far, only one vinyl greenhouse has been destroyed, and there have been no casualties.
The wildfire has continued for three days since 9:14 p.m. on the 21st. The National Fire Agency issued a national firefighting mobilization order at 11:14 p.m. on the previous day.
The National Fire Agency said that after sunrise it deployed a large number of aerial and ground assets, including helicopters and fire engines, to carry out suppression operations. The current containment rate is about 58%.
The National Fire Agency also issued a preliminary firefighting mobilization order to keep 21 firefighting units from three adjacent metropolitan cities and provinces—Daejeon, South Chungcheong, and Gwangju—on immediate standby to prepare for further spread.
Kim Seung-ryong, acting commissioner of the National Fire Agency, said, "We will not let our guard down until the end and will mobilize all available firefighting resources to do our utmost to protect people's lives and property."
