The wildfire that broke out on the 21st in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, was found to have started when embers from field burning spread to a nearby hillside.
The National Fire Agency said it had identified the cause of the Seosan wildfire as such and issued level 1 fire response at about 3:09 p.m. and level 2 at about 4:06 p.m., mobilizing all-out efforts.
According to fire authorities, there have been no casualties so far.
Fire authorities mobilized fire engines and other resources to establish a defensive line to protect key national facilities, including an oil stockpiling base in a national industrial complex near the area where the wildfire occurred. They also conducted pre-wetting operations to spray water in nearby areas in advance.
They also pre-deployed a high-capacity foam discharge system to prepare for any contingency.
At about 2:22 p.m. the same day, a wildfire also broke out in Songseok-ri, Daesul-myeon, Yesan County, South Chungcheong Province.
Fire authorities have deployed 11 helicopters and other assets to carry out suppression operations. Likewise, there have been no casualties so far.
At about 3:52 p.m. the same day, a forest fire also broke out in Bongnim-dong, Uichang District, Changwon, and level 1 response was issued at about 4:15 p.m. There have been no casualties reported so far.
Acting National Fire Agency Commissioner Kim Seung-ryong said, "Given that the wildfire situation can change at any time depending on weather conditions such as strong winds, we will not let our guard down until the end and will do everything we can to extinguish the fire."
