A wildfire broke out on Bukhansan Mountain in Jongno District, Seoul, on the 21st.
Jongno District said at about 7:30 p.m. that "a wildfire occurred at San 5-1, Gugidong, around Yeonhwasa and Geumsansa on Bukhansan Mountain." The district sent a safety alert text message to nearby residents asking them to take precautions.
The wildfire was reported to be small in scale. An official at the Korea Forest Service said, "So far, the risk of it spreading to nearby areas is low," and noted they were "mopping up remaining embers."
According to fire authorities, the blaze started on the ninth ridge section of Hyangnobong on Bukhansan Mountain, and as of 10:10 p.m., the containment rate was about 95%.
About 50 pyeong (165.3 square meters) has been burned so far in the fire.
A total of 346 personnel, including 111 firefighters, 30 district office staff, and 122 police officers, and 29 fire trucks were deployed for the suppression effort.
Authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire once the mop-up is complete.
