As the head of Saekdongwon, a residential facility for people with severe developmental disabilities, was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting residents, police carried out additional searches and seizures.
The Saekdongwon case special investigation team at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has been executing search and seizure warrants since 9 a.m. on the 20th at Saekdongwon in Ganghwa County, Incheon, and at the residence of a person surnamed Kim, the facility head.
Police are currently investigating whether Saekdongwon embezzled subsidies it received and the beneficiaries' living benefits. This is the first time police have conducted searches and seizures in connection with allegations of subsidy embezzlement at Saekdongwon. Police conducted one round of searches and seizures last year related to Kim's alleged sexual violence.
Kim was taken into custody the previous day. Kim is accused of coercing sexual intercourse or similar sexual acts from people with disabilities who stayed at Saekdongwon for years, using life guidance and other supervision as a pretext.
