During the Lunar New Year holiday from the 13th to the 18th this year, about 720,000 people are expected to depart overseas through Incheon International Airport. The most popular destination is Japan.
According to Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) on the 14th, the number of passengers departing overseas from Incheon International Airport during the six-day holiday, including transit passengers, totaled 718,880.
By country, Japan was the highest at 185,432, followed by China at 123,486. Visitors to Southeast Asian countries numbered 204,084, and Europe accounted for 35,740.
By date, the 14th, the second day of the holiday, is expected to see the most departures at 130,675. In contrast, the 18th, the last day of the holiday, is projected to be the lowest at 104,721.
To meet the surge in parking demand during the holiday, the corporation will implement special transportation measures, including securing an additional 4,550 reserve parking spaces. It also plans to strengthen management of airport access roads by deploying more guides during expected peak congestion hours.
A corporation official said, "Arriving at the airport too early can actually worsen congestion," and added, "For a smooth experience, please actively use public transportation and services such as smart check-in."
