The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said on the 11th it will support investment in the Katowice, Poland, logistics center to help domestic logistics corporations expand smoothly overseas.

The investment proceeded in the form of a consortium acquiring equity in the logistics center. The consortium is composed of Korea Ocean Business Corporation (KOBC), LX Pantos, and Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND). This is part of the "global logistics supply chain hub acquisition strategy," a national agenda centered on a goal to invest in 40 overseas public-support logistics facilities by 2030.

With this investment, a public-support logistics facility has been secured in Eastern Europe for the first time. The Katowice, Poland, logistics center covers 108,951 square meters (about 33,000 pyeong) and consists of five buildings in total. Two buildings have been purchased, and the remaining three are scheduled for completion in the second quarter of this year.

Katowice, Poland, is about 500 kilometers from the Port of Gdansk. It is the center of Silesia, the largest industrial zone in the country, and neighboring countries include Germany and the Czech Republic.

This investment brings the number of overseas public-support logistics facilities to 10. Existing facilities are ▲Rotterdam, Netherlands ▲Barcelona, Spain ▲Java, Indonesia ▲Los Angeles (LA), Dalton, Secaucus, Savannah, and Atlanta in the United States.

Kim Hye-jung, director general of shipping and logistics at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF), said, "With this securing of a logistics hub in Eastern Europe, corporations from Korea now have a stronger foothold to expand more smoothly into Eastern Europe," adding, "We will continue to actively support investment in overseas logistics bases for our logistics corporations."
