According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, as of 5 a.m. the snow cloud band developing over the West Sea is moving in, and heavy snow advisories are in effect for the Jeolla region and Jeju Island. In parts of the western Jeolla region and Jeju Island, heavy snow of 1–3 centimeters per hour is falling.
Snow will fall along the southern Chungcheong west coast through the morning, in the Jeolla region through the forenoon, and on Jeju Island through the night.
From the previous day to 5 a.m. on this day, snowfall totals were 18.8 centimeters at Samgakbong in Jeju, 9.5 centimeters at Songdang in Jeju, 10.9 centimeters in Mokpo, South Jeolla, 9.3 centimeters in Naju, 15.7 centimeters in Boksung, Sunchang, North Jeolla, 14.3 centimeters in Gochang, and 8.6 centimeters in Jeongeup.
Expected snowfall on this day is around 1 centimeter along the southern Chungcheong west coast; 2–7 centimeters in Gwangju, western South Jeolla, and the North Jeolla west coast and southern inland; 1–5 centimeters in eastern South Jeolla; and 5–10 centimeters (15 centimeters or more in places) in the mountainous areas of Jeju Island.
As of 6 a.m. on this day, cold wave advisories are in effect for the central region (except the east coast), the mid to northern inland and northeastern mountainous areas of North Gyeongsang, eastern North Jeolla, and parts of inland South Gyeongsang. In the central region, inland Gyeongsang, and North Jeolla, temperatures are at or below minus 10 degrees, and in most other areas nationwide they are at or below minus 5 degrees.
The daytime high is forecast at minus 4 to 3 degrees. In most areas nationwide, temperatures will remain below freezing even during the day.
