The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said on the 6th that it held a roundtable to ensure the smooth promotion of the "Chungnam–Daejeon administrative integration."
At the roundtable held at the Government Sejong Complex that afternoon, Minister Yoon Ho-jung of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS), Chungcheongnam-do Governor Kim Tae-heum, and Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo attended.
The roundtable was organized ahead of the National Assembly's review of the special act on administrative integration to share the diverse voices and demands that have been raised in the region and to seek effective government-level support measures.
Governor Kim and Mayor Lee said that, for the Chungnam–Daejeon administrative integration, substantial autonomy that will drive the region's self-directed growth and a permanent foundation for financial support must be secured at the same time.
They also shared concerns that the specific special cases and details differ by the integration bills currently under discussion, as well as concerns over the abbreviation of the integrated special city.
Minister Yoon said, "Administrative integration is a strategic national decision to overcome the limits of the capital-area monocentric system and secure a new growth engine for Korea," adding, "We are preparing bold administrative and fiscal incentives so that the integrated local government has powers and status befitting that role and can grow on its own, and substantial powers will also be significantly devolved."
