The YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute (Gaseyeon) has provisionally seized former President Park Geun-hye's residence in Dalseong County, Daegu.
According to legal sources on Feb. 5, Han Seong-min, a single judge of the Civil Division 54-2 at the Seoul Central District Court, accepted and granted a provisional seizure request filed by Gaseyeon and CEO Kim Se-eui against the former president on Jan. 30.
A provisional seizure is a court measure that temporarily seizes property to prevent a debtor from concealing or selling assets. A creditor may apply to preserve assets in preparation for compulsory execution.
The residence for which the court granted the provisional seizure is a single-family house purchased in 2022 under the former president's name by Park's close aide, People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Young-ha. The land area is 1,676㎡ (about 507 pyeong), with a total floor area of 712㎡ (about 215 pyeong), and is known to include a residential building and three auxiliary structures. An elevator is also said to be installed inside.
When Yoo bought the residence, he borrowed money from Gaseyeon and Kim, and is said to have failed to repay 1 billion won owed to Gaseyeon and 9 billion won owed to Kim. The lending claim filed by Kim and Gaseyeon totals 10 billion won.
After being granted a special pardon at the end of 2021, the former president moved into this house. At the time, Yoo said regarding the expense of purchasing Park's residence that "it is true Gaseyeon provided help." He also said he planned to repay it with Park's publication stamp tax, among other sources.
