Moon Jae-in's daughter Moon Da-hye, 43, was again fined on appeal on charges of drunken driving and operating illegal accommodations.
The Seoul Western District Court Criminal Appeals Division 2-3 (Presiding Judge Lim Gi-hwan) on Feb. 5 handed down the same fine of 15 million won as the first trial in the sentencing hearing for Moon on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act and the Public Health Control Act.
The appellate court dismissed the appeals by both the prosecutor and Moon, saying it could not find any new circumstances to change the lower court's sentence.
Moon was brought to trial on charges of driving while heavily intoxicated and changing lanes before colliding with a taxi that was following, in front of Hamilton Hotel in Itaewon, Yongsan District, on Oct. 5, 2024. At the time of the crash, the blood alcohol concentration was found to be 0.149%, exceeding the license revocation threshold of 0.08%.
Moon was also indicted on charges of operating an officetel in Yeongdeungpo District, a low-rise apartment in Yangpyeong-dong, and a single-family house in Hyeopjae-ri, Hallim-eup, Jeju City, as illegal accommodations, generating total revenue of 1.36 billion won over about five years.
