A person surnamed Jeong (38), who was brought to trial on charges of stealing cash and valuables from the home of TV personality Park Na-rae (40), was also sentenced to prison in the appeals trial.
The Seoul Western District Court Criminal Appeals Division 2-1 (Presiding Judge Jeong Seong-gyun) on the 5th sentenced Jeong to two years in prison, the same as the lower court, on charges of theft and nighttime home invasion.
The appellate court said, "The defendant committed the crime while on probation," and ruled, "Compared with the first trial, there has been no particular change in circumstances, and it is hard to see that the sentence set by the first trial fell outside a reasonable range."
Jeong was brought to trial on charges of breaking into Park Na-rae's home in Yongsan District, Seoul, in April last year and stealing cash and valuables worth tens of millions of won. In late March last year, Jeong was also arrested after committing theft at another home in Yongsan District, Seoul.
Jeong appealed after being sentenced to two years in prison in the first trial. In a final statement, Jeong said, "I sincerely apologize to the victims and ask for forgiveness," and added, "Please allow me to return to society a little earlier so I can make proper restitution to the victims."
