BTS will hold a comeback stage next month at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul to mark the release of its fifth full-length album. The performance, which will unveil new songs for the first time in the heart of the city, will be broadcast live worldwide on Netflix.
Agency BigHit Music said on the 3rd that BTS will hold a performance to mark the release of its fifth full-length album, "BTS The Comeback Live: Arirang (BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE|ARIRANG)," at 8 p.m. on the 21st of next month at Gwanghwamun Square. The stage has been previewed as the first showcase of performances of new songs, including the title track, at Gwanghwamun Square.
BigHit Music said, "This will be the first time a singer holds a solo performance at Gwanghwamun Square," adding, "BTS will set another milestone in Korea's cultural history through this stage."
The agency added, "The new album 'Arirang (ARIRANG)' is a record that captures BTS' starting point, identity, and the emotions the group wants to convey now," noting, "Because the word 'Arirang' carries symbolic meaning, we wanted to set the first stage in a space that represents Korea," explaining the choice of Gwanghwamun for the performance.
It has been a long time since BTS staged a large-scale performance in downtown Seoul, the last being in 2020. At that time, as part of NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon special week project, the group performed with Geunjeongjeon Hall and Gyeonghoeru Pavilion at Gyeongbokgung Palace as the backdrop.
This performance will be broadcast live via Netflix to more than 190 countries around the world. This is the first time a major event held in Korea will be broadcast live worldwide on Netflix.
Meanwhile, BTS' fifth full-length album, "Arirang," will be released at 1 p.m. on the 20th of next month and will include 14 new songs dealing with universal emotions such as the group's identity, longing, and deep love. The documentary film "BTS: The Return," which captures the production process of the album, will also be released on Netflix on the 27th of next month.
