The National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives and the Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) agreed to cooperate to prepare measures for structural problems facing rural and fishing communities, such as climate change and regional extinction.
Kim Ki-seong, CEO of the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, and Han Du-bong, president of the Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI), signed a "business agreement to realize shared values in rural and fishing communities" at the Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) in Naju, South Jeolla, on the 3rd. This is the first time the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives has built a cooperative framework with a policy research institute in the agricultural sector.
With this agreement, the two institutions plan to pursue joint research to resolve issues facing rural and fishing communities, including the risk of extinction.
Specifically: ▲ discover policies for regional economic growth and the realization of shared values in rural and fishing communities ▲ exchange and cooperation on research to stabilize farm and fishing household management in response to regional extinction and the climate crisis in rural and fishing areas ▲ provide and cooperate on fisheries and agricultural statistics and fishing village survey information ▲ share research experience and know-how through exchanges of experts ▲ strengthen cooperation in areas of activity related to rural and fishing policy research.
With a foundation established for research and human exchanges between specialized institutions in the agriculture and fisheries sectors, this is expected to make a significant contribution to the development of the agro-fisheries industry by resolving common issues.
Kim said, "Based on research and human exchanges in the specialties of both institutions, we have taken a meaningful first step to jointly address the common tasks facing our agro-fisheries industry," adding, "This cooperation will be a meaningful turning point for the sustainable development of rural and fishing communities and the future of the agro-fisheries industry."
Han said, "This agreement will serve as a valuable opportunity to work together to resolve the crisis facing rural and fishing communities," adding, "We will contribute more proactively to policy needs on the ground in rural and fishing areas."
